2004 Little Red Fairy "My Vietnam" Art Contest Winner!

2004 WILLIAM R. KING AWARD FOR BEST OF SHOW winning entry.

As with previous years, the illustrations we received were wonderful! Some amazed us, some made us smile and feel warm inside, and most just confirmed that children are children no matter where they live. We are once again honored to review such personal and heartfelt work from these children

The William R. King Award for "Best of Show" is given to the artist exhibiting the most overall creative talent, judged on the artist's technique, composition, and creativity. The award is named for the founder's uncle, an accomplished artist whose later years were devoted to sharing his talents by teaching others.

We especially liked this artist’s use of color and painterly technique. The transition in the waters from a deep blue color to frothy white as it reaches the shoreline was lovely. And the movement illustrated where the water touches the legs is a nice touch. The foamy white water and waves were illustrated very well. We can almost hear the waves lapping up onto shore and feel the spray of the ocean water. A lovely theme we’ve not often seen from the children. Beautiful!
